Give Time Some Time

Last month, I had a Viber conversation with a friend. We were talking about our friends who we have lost contact with because of the bad things that have happened not too long ago. There were anger and disappointment but she said, “Okay lang yun, time heals.”, only then that I remembered the famous saying “Time heals all wounds”. If you’ve done everything to fix the situation, then maybe you just need to carry on with your life and hope that things will get better one day. To be honest, I am not entirely sure if we can rely on time to heal the pain brought about people who have disappointed us. But then again, what other choice do we have?

I believe every self-help book in the market often say “Time heals all wounds”. It sure is a cliché but most clichés have a tad bit of truth to them. There are people who hold on to this saying which leads them to going back to the swing of things earlier than those who do not believe that time does heal the wounds that they’ve gotten a million and one years ago.

Some say that, okay, time heals all wounds but you will always be left with the scar. It’s like saying, “Forgive but never forget”. It is certifiably hard to forget about the pain but dwelling in that bad feeling wouldn’t do you any good either. It just prolongs its existence. You cannot say that you have truly forgiven or that you have been healed if the thought of that bad situation still makes you feel mad or hurt. Actually, the fact that you still think about it clearly says that you haven’t moved on.

I bet many people have proven the truth behind this cliché but I guess we will never understand what it truly means until we let it happen to us, until we let time heal us.

Probably things will never be the same but at least whenever you tell someone your story, it will end with “… but time healed me.”
