Throwback Thursday #2: Favorite Childhood Memories
I had a pretty amazing childhood. I remember playing outside all the time. My playmates were my uncles and aunts who were only a couple years older than me (yeah, we have a weird family tree!). The television shows back in the days were also very nice. And, and, and! We didn't have iPhone and iPad that cause kids nowadays to isolate themselves from other kids. It's so different now! My time was so much better, in my opinion.
Top 3 Favorite Childhood Memories:
- Haunted House and Cherry. There was an abandoned house in our area. My playmates and I declared that that was our house. It was muddy and empty so we cleaned it up and brought small broken furniture from our own houses. We would stay there all day and all night. Then there was this other group of kids who wanted to share the house with us. To scare them away, we told them it was haunted and there was a ghost living there named Cherry. We told the kids we were friends with Cherry and she didn't want us to let other kids inside. If someone she didn't know would enter the house, she would eat them alive. The kids believed us so yeah, we had the house for ourselves until someone bought it. We were very sad when we saw trucks tearing the house apart. They were going to build a new one. We told the construction workers about Cherry. And yeah, of course they did not believe us.
- The Hill. There was a man-made hill at one of my playmates backyard. We would ask for boxes from the nearby store and use them to slide down the hill. I think most of my childhood wounds were from that little activity.
- The Amazing Race. There was an empty lot near our house. The lot had so many trees and random craps. We used everything we see in there to make "obstacles" and pretend we were in a TV show like Amazing race. There were clues hidden in the bushes and challenges to complete.
One day, a group of kids wanted to join us. We didn't like them (we were little brats!!) but they wanted to join so badly that they asked their parents to talk us into letting them join, so we did. But like what I've said, we were little brats. We dug a hole and put broken pieces of glass in it then covered it with grass. One of the challenges we gave to the unwanted kids required them to walk pass the trap... and they did. Mission accomplished! One of kids fell into the trap, there were glasses on her foot. My little sister almost fainted when she saw how much blood there was. Next thing I know, we were all grounded.
